On Saturday, May 17th, we received a frantic, early morning call from the staff of Animal Clinic Northview. Someone brought in a dog to the emergency clinic bleeding from a large gaping wound in her face. The owner of the dog had allegedly inflicted the wounds onto the 8 month-old dog in the face after she had an accident in the house. Our humane team responded to Animal Clinic Northview. The owner signed the dog over to Friendship APL humane officers who authorized the staff at Northview to begin life-saving surgery to give the pup a fighting chance.
The owner of the dog was outside the jurisdiction of our humane officers and other local law enforcement. Our humane team presented the Perkins Police Department in Erie County with the evidence on Saturday. On Monday morning, Perkins PD arrested the suspect, Terry Thomas on felony charges of animal cruelty.
Thanks to the heroic care of the team at Animal Clinic Northview, the diligence of our humane team, and the decisive action of the Perkins Police Department – this sweet girl will have a second chance and the owner will face justice for this truly awful case of brutal abuse.
The road to recovery for this girl will be long, but despite the horrific trauma she went through we remain hopeful. Greg Willey, our Director was able to visit her after she woke up from surgery. She will spend several days recovering at Northview Animal Clinic, before going into a foster home for some continued and much needed TLC.
