As seasons change in Northeast Ohio, it is no secret that we all look forward to warmer weather. Pet parents are eager to get outside, take their dogs on walks and encourage their cats to bask in the sun. However, keeping your pet happy and healthy this summer should also be a top priority! This article will focus on several different tips to keep your pets safe in warm weather:
- Provide plenty of shade and water. Making sure your pets have a place to get out of the sun and heat is important. Constantly having cold water on hand will make sure your pets stay hydrated.
- Never keep your animal in a parked vehicle. Temperatures inside vehicles can exceed outside temperatures making it dangerously hot for your pets, even with a window cracked.
- Be mindful when walking your dog on hot concrete/asphalt. The temperature of the ground your dog is walking on can get much hotter than the temperature outside. Make sure to feel the ground with your hand first. If it is too hot for you, it is too hot for them. Instead go for a walk at a park, where your dog has the option to walk in the grass or on a shaded path.
