Adoption Story: Pickles the Dog

This is a story about Pickles. No, not the kind you eat. But definitely the kind worth saving! Pickles was a 4 year old Cattle Dog mix with pointy ears and a speckled coat. Many of our supporters know we have made it a point to work with the Bissell Pet Foundation, pulling dogs from at risk shelters across the country. It can be hard for us to look at lists lined with hundreds of dogs when we are only able to take a few. But something about Pickles stood out to us. When we unloaded the dogs off of our van, after their flight and after a long day of traveling, most were scared. Pickles was shy, but friendly. He didn’t quite understand what was going on. We had pulled these dogs, including Pickles, knowing they had Heartworm and knowing we could provide the treatment they needed. Not only was Pickles heartworm positive, but he was in need of some TLC, including a few good baths. Just in the few days we had Pickles, he started opening up and showing us his goofy outgoing personality. He had spent weeks at the original shelter he came from without heartworm treatment and was eagerly looking for a home. We are happy to say that after arriving at FAPL on June 12th, he was adopted in a week, on the 19th after having his first heartworm treatment! Check out some updated photos of Pickles, and read about his adjustment to his new home!:

“We adopted Pickles in June from FAPL. He came to us heartworm positive. He was already given the first treatment and then FAPL assisted us with getting him the second treatment after adoption. We can finally say he is officially heartworm FREE! Thank you so much for all you did in the beginning of his journey before he came to us! Because of you and everyone else who took a chance on him, he is now living his best life! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Forever grateful: Christa & Kevin”
